New method of house training for puppies

Puppy house-training begins long before the little one arrives at its new home. At the byakko kitsune fci kennel, from the very first weeks, we help puppies understand where they should do their business and how to recognise a suitable surface.

Today we want to share our current toilet training system, which we introduced with the utmost care and are observing its very promising effects.

Why did we decide to change our approach?

Until now we have used classical hygiene mats – a convenient and widespread solution. Unfortunately, over time we noticed that it does not yield the expected results.

Puppies were learning to relieve themselves onto a soft, absorbent surface, meaning that in new homes:

  • it was harder to get them used to doing their business outside,
  • there were frequent „accidents” on the carpets or blankets,
  • and some owners had to to do away with carpets, because the dog associated them with the training pads.

That is why we decided change the approach and look for something more intuitive and effective – that is how our current system came to be.

Stage 1: Pellet litter tray

In the playpen, we have created a system based on:

  • wood pellet – safe, natural and highly absorbent of odours,
  • net – protects paws from getting wet,
  • artificial grass – resembles natural substrate.

Already we can see that the little ones they happily choose this place, and the area around the bed remains clean.

Stage 2: Regular toilet breaks outside

Every day – several times a day – we take the puppies for the garden.
They are experiencing fresh grass, the sun, smells, sounds - but above all they are learning that grass = toilet area.

Additionally, they have access to safe playground - with a tunnel, toys and obstacles - which develops not only their physical fitness, but also their self-confidence and curiosity about the world.

Stage 3: Readiness for the new home

Even though it is a new system, we already see first results:
✔️ Puppies soil their playpen less often,
✔️ They choose specific places to relieve themselves,
✔️ As soon as they go out on the grass, they relieve themselves almost immediately.

This gives us enormous hope that in their new homes it will be much easier for them to continue toilet training, and new carers will feel a real difference.

Why does this solution delight us?

✅ Combines comfort and hygiene in the home with the natural instinct to toilet outdoors
It is simple, effective and safe
✅ Enables toddlers to learn potty training without stress
✅ It engages them in exploring their surroundings and builds positive habits
✅ Does not perpetuate the harmful association „soft = pee”

This is only the beginning, but we are full of hope and enthusiasm as we watch our little ones develop within this system. .
In time we will update this post with the long-term effects!
